The cabecirrufo woodpecker

The cabecirrufo woodpecker only lives in forests of tacuaras, also called guaduas or cañazas. That is why the conservation of those ecosystems is so important. They are distributed throughout the southern Amazon of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. They are shy, they have the same partner all their lives. They eat ants and termites that they catch with their long tongue. They also have a sophisticated system of bones in the skull to be able to chop the logs without injuring themselves.
